Geotechnical Intern/Co-op (Fall 2024)

The DC and MD offices of GEI are seeking a motivated intern/co-op to assist with our projects located throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Our team works on numerous challenging geotechnical and geostructural projects including buildings, dams, bridges, tunnels, slopes, ground improvement, and excavation support systems.

In support of project success and client satisfaction, and under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers, this individual will provide support to ongoing office and field work.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist with engineering analyses and design.
  • Observe soil borings and log soil and rock samples.
  • Soil classification, review and interpretation.
  • Perform computations, prepare spreadsheets, prepare and edit drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and reports.
  • Monitor construction activities such as pile driving and footing construction.
  • Work will be directed by various geotechnical project managers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate geotechnical engineering program or in the 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate program in Civil or Geotechnical engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed.
  • Physical ability to perform field work in summer and winter conditions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to work in the field as needed.
