We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a broad background in geotechnical engineering. The candidate must have a strong foundation in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering theory with creativity in problem solving. Experience with problem soils, karst, ground improvement techniques, rock mechanics, and slope/retaining wall failures are a plus. Experience in the mid-Atlantic region is also a plus.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
The selected candidate will need to be able to support us on all phases of a project including:
- developing proposals and fees,
- planning field exploration and lab testing programs,
- classifying soil and rock,
- assigning material parameters,
- performing calculations and analyzing models,
- coordinating drafting and drawings in CAD
- preparing geotechnical engineering reports and design memoranda with recommendations,
- preparing contract documents (specifications and plans) with support of our design group,
- field oversight and technical consultation during construction,
- construction phase services to the owner (submittal reviews, RFIs, etc.), and
- managing projects and teams to budget and scope.
The candidate will be expected to mentor and coach junior staff both technically and professionally.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering, or similar, is required, or equivalent experience,
- MS in Geotechnical Engineering is required,
- 8+ years of experience is preferred,
- Excellent writing and clear communication skills, and
- Willing and able to travel for meetings and short- and medium-term field assignments.
Preferred Qualification
- 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus,
