Your role at GEI.
 
In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and preparation of engineering design drawings, calculations and contract specifications for a variety of land development and municipal infrastructure projects.
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data to plan projects
  • Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis
  • Compile and submit permit applications to local and provincial agencies verifying that projects comply with various regulations
  • Perform or oversee soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations
  • Test building materials, such as concrete, asphalt, or steel, for use in particular projects
  • Provide cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labor to determine a project's economic feasibility
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings and calculations of site grading, drainage, servicing plans, buildings and bridges, storm and sanitary sewers, watermains and stormwater management facilities using design drafting software, including but not limited to, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Perform or oversee, surveying operations to establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction
  • Present their findings to the public on topics such as bid proposals, environmental impact statements, or property descriptions
  • Read and review project blueprints to determine dimensions of structures
  • Confer with their supervisors about preparing plans and evaluating field conditions
  • Inspect project sites and evaluate contractors' work in order to detect problems with a design
  • Help to ensure that projects conform to design specifications and applicable codes
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Experience in materials testing of aggregates and asphalt products considered an asset.
  • Civil Engineering Technology graduate. Eligible for or obtained OACETT designation an asset;
  • Experience and aptitude to work with the following software packages: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/Civil 3D;
  • Possess strong organizational, oral, written communication, and problem solving skills; have an approachable enthusiastic interpersonal style;
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
